The A/V-1C

The A/V-1C kit is the same as the standard A/V-1 kit, but it is a single (one speaker) shielded model designed to be used as a center channel.

The A/V-1 is a mini-monitor that is the result of continuous on going development. The latest version of this speaker, using the M-130 woofer and new GR-T3 tweeter, reaches a new level of performance.

The performance of earlier versions can be and has been compared to some of the best high-end mini monitors available, and the latest revisions make it an even greater stand out. Yet, its low price makes it affordable for even modest budgeted systems.

This speaker is ideal for small to mid-sized rooms in a high-end, two channel application. It's also well suited for the high-end, home theater application used as left and right mains, left and right rears, and as a center channel.

Its -3db down point of 55Hz makes it easy to blend with a sub and the use of a sub-woofer to extend the bottom end response in a system using A/V-1's is recommended.

This kit is easy to assemble and can be considered beginner to novice level in difficulty. The wiring diagram has been provided in picture form, so you don't even need to know how to read a schematic.

Tools needed for assembly include a soldering gun, a heat gun (for sealing the glue filled heat shrink) or a really hot hair dryer, a Phillips head screw driver, and a number 15 Torx driver. Other tools that may help include a pair of needle noise pliers, and some good wire stripers.

The enclosures are designed to be easy to build as well.

For building the enclosures the recommended tools include a table saw, a router with a circle jig, wood glue, claps or finishing nails (for holding it until the glue dries), drill, sand paper, etc.

Depending on how you choose finish them there will be an expense for veneer or paint.

Shown to the left is a pair that was built from 3/4" MDF, primered, sprayed with a textured paint, then sprayed with Black spray paint.

One sheet of MDF (4' x 8' sheet) will easily build 5 units with some to spare. Cost of a sheet of MDF is about $18.00 a sheet.

Including paint the average hobbyist can build these completed speakers this way for about $259. a pair. For the hobbyist looking for great performance on a budget this is the way to go.

There is only one thing the average hobbyist sees as tricky when building their own enclosures, and that is fabricating their own grills.

If you would like grills we have made this easy as well.

We have in stock, pre-cut, front baffles and grills. Both have small Neodymium magnets embedded in them that are unseen from the surface. So the grill easily self aligns and snaps firmly in place when placed on the front baffle. The magnetic field is not strong enough to effect TV screens or computer monitors when placed in close proximity.

The standard kit now comes with Erse XQ inductors and Erse Pulse X poly caps. Sonicap Gen.2 by-pass caps are also standard with this kit. We now offer the new patent pending Electra Tube Connectors as the standard speaker wire connectors for all of our kits as they are superior to all current binding posts. These have a $59 a set retail value. The standard internal wire is a high purity solid core 16 gauge with a polyethylene jacket.
